Working with User Manager

Working with User Manager comprises managing users, groups of users, roles, clients and user import.

Valuemation User Management Processes

  • Creating Users

After the installation, Valuemation contains default roles with some predefined users and the user administrator. Administrator can then add another user(s). There are two different ways of adding users – by adding them manually or importing them from the LDAP server.

In order to activate a new user in Valuemation there are several steps which must be taken:

    • Map the user to a Persons in the Valuemation Person catalog (optional).

The final step of creating a new user happens automatically on his/her first login into Valuemation. The personalized tree of folders and catalogs is generated (see Environment).

NOTE: If the user is mapped to one client only, after logon, he/she proceeds directly to work with the data of that client within Valuemation. If the user is mapped to multiple clients, after logon, a dialog box is called up, prompting the user to select a client he/she wants to work with in this session (see also the Login topic describing logging into Valuemation).

  • Setting up Authorizations for a New Role

Setting of the authorization is the final operation which must be carried out in order to be able to use the role you have created and to ensure that the system and the data is protected against unauthorized access. Remember to set up these authorizations in Authorization Manager, which is a separate part of Valuemation.

Possible User Manager Performance Issues

On some databases, there is an extremely large number of users or persons and consequently one group/role/client can contain thousands of users. User Manager always reads all the data in the collection and this may lead to long waiting times or even to an error in the worst case.

For this reason, several customized views have been created in the Valuemation Core Business View where the user can easily assign users to role/groups/clients in a standard way. Please see the 'Mapping Using the Customized Views' topic for details.
