Import from LDAP

Valuemation User Manager offers all the functionality which an administrator requires to administer all the users who have access to Valuemation. It can be used as a stand-alone facility and contains all the features required to perform the required task.

However in larger organizations, there is frequently another system already in operation. Often this is LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). The LDAP server holds a single database with employee data, which can be accessed by any application. The main administration of the users is carried out centrally in LDAP and is made available to the applications.

The Valuemation User Manager offers an Import facility which imports the relevant parts of the data into Valuemation. In such a case, some internal users may be used for administrators but the majority of the users are imported from LDAP. LDAP also administers Groups of Users. Being able to use predefined Users and Groups represents a huge saving of time spent in administration.

There are two types of users / groups:

  • Internal users / groups

Users / groups created in Valuemation User Manager and stored only within the Valuemation database. Such users / groups can be processed in Valuemation without restriction.

  • External users / groups

Users / groups imported from LDAP database. Such users / groups can be assigned to roles but any changes to the users / groups have to be carried out on the LDAP server.

Should a conflict arise between internal and external users / groups during import, the users / groups are not imported until the conflict has been resolved. The import issues a warning message.
