Column Search

Unlike the Field Search view, the Column Search mode does not work with preselected attributes. A user can select the catalog attributes directly when defining a query.

Column Search: Advantages and Limitations

  • The user is not limited to the use of the specific preselected attributes. They can be selected from a list of attributes.
  • The condition is applied immediately after it has been defined. The search is being performed in real time in the background without the necessity of clicking the 'Search & Refresh' button.
  • Compared to the other search modes, it takes the least space on the GUI in the search area.
  • Column Search is also available in Reference Catalogs.
  • All search conditions are connected with 'AND' operator. The structure for combining AND / OR is not available.
  • The structure for grouping conditions using parenthesis () is not available.

The result is an easy-to-understand search mechanism which is perfectly adequate for many everyday requirements. Since the query definition lies in the hands of a user, he has got more of an overview of the filtering criteria.

Column Search: The Basic Customization

To be available as a search mode in a catalog, the Column Search has to be allowed for the catalog. You can also set which search mode is to be displayed by default when the catalog is opened for the first time. See and study the General tab topic in the Catalog Customizer for more information.

The Catalog Query Selector appears on the GUI only when it has been customized in the Global Settings (the lower setting priority) and User Settings (the highest setting priority).
