Field Search

Unlike the more complicated Expert Search, the Field Search uses a predefined interface intended to streamline the search operation by displaying fewer attributes and simplifying the syntax of the search conditions.

Field Search: Advantages and Limitations

  • Only specific preselected attributes are available. The attributes do not have to be searched for and selected from a list of attributes.
  • The search operators are preset to defaults.
  • All search conditions are connected with 'AND' operator. The structure for combining AND / OR is not available.
  • The structure for grouping conditions using parenthesis () is not available.

The result is an easy-to-understand search mechanism which is perfectly adequate for many everyday requirements. Since fewer attributes are displayed, the user has more of an overview. Also the syntax of the condition is simplified so that the less experienced user can enter search conditions easily. The attributes themselves are listed as text and do not have to be selected from large list of attributes like in Expert Search.

Field Search: The Customization

To be available in a catalog, a Field Search view has to be created and assigned to the catalog.
