Configure the System

About Asset Configuration

Configuring an asset system means changing the structure of its components. Typical use cases include:

  • A new / upgraded component is added to a system
  • An old / broken component is removed from a system
  • Components are swapped between systems
  • Components hierarchy within a system is changed

A component must always be allocated to a system, which is why the configuration process always involves two systems: the system actually being configured and a system playing the role of a source and/or destination of components.

The allocation of components to systems is a so-called time-related link, which provides the possibility to track the history of configurations. Note, however, that links between components and their subcomponents (in a hierarchical system structure) are not time-related.

Action 'Configure the System'

Asset system catalogs provide right-click context menu action 'Configure the System'. This powerful action can be called on a single system to change its configuration in multiple ways - see topics 'Configure a System: Add Components', 'Configure a System: Remove Components' and 'Configure a System: Upgrade Components' for details.

Manual Configuration

The 'Components Installed' section of the system editor can also be used for simple system configuration, for instance to add the first set of components during system creation.

  1. Locate and expand the 'Components Installed' section.
  2. Use the '+' button to search and assign existing free components to the system.
