Risk Rating

Risk rating of a change is handled by a special risk rating object linked to the change ticket. The object contains information relevant for risk assessment of the change. This information is displayed on the Risk Rating tab of the change ticket editor.

Content of the risk rating object is generated automatically during ticket creation on the basis of Ticket Type and Service Parameter. For example, if a change of Ticket Type 'Normal Change' and Service Parameter 'Change Impact Minor' is created, the risk is automatically evaluated and the radio buttons on the Risk Rating tab are pre-selected to reflect the expected risk.

In the life cycle of a change, there are special activities which prescribe the risk rating to be re-evaluated (typically by Change Manager). This is done by opening the ticket and inspecting its Risk Rating tab. The goal is to make sure that the automatically generated values reflect the actual situation of a particular ticket.

Should the need to modify some of the values arise, the risk rating object can be edited. (Open it for editing by clicking the Edit button on the Risk Rating tab.)

Changing the values influences overall risk rating number. The increase or decrease of the risk rating number consequently influences the Service Parameter of the change ticket. (When the risk rating number reaches a certain threshold, modification of the Service Parameter is triggered.)

The following screenshot (capturing the Risk Rating tab in the edit mode) provides an overview of parameters used for risk evaluation.
