Person Mapping

Person Mapping is the process of allocating Valuemation users (Userid which logs on) to persons in the Person catalog of Valuemation. This creates an associated person.

Person mapping is not compulsory, but does have several advantages. Person mapping is required to use the user variables, which in turn are used in the Authorization Manager. Authorization can be defined in terms of ownership – i.e. a user may process the records allocated to his department.

Currently Valuemation supports two such variables allowed cost centers and allowed departments. When a user logs on, a script runs through all cost centers and departments and traces through to establish which related objects the current user is allowed to access - specifically, the ones that their associated person belongs to and the ones they manage.

NOTE: An Administrator can create other user variables, tailor made to the needs of the client.

Person mapping can also be used to implement more powerful workflows. Consider a situation where a head of department should approve requests for investment. A basic workflow could be started by the manager and list the requests and record his approval. The manager must start this workflow himself and the person who filled the request must wait until that point. A more powerful workflow can be implemented if person mapping has been carried out. When the request is made, the department is known. Through person mapping the manager of that department can be found. The workflow could send the manager an email (by finding his email address) informing him that a request has been made. Another possibility would be to implement a workflow which recognizes that manager (by recognizing his userid) when he next logs in to Valuemation and displaying the requests which are waiting for his approval.

Person mapping allows the Valuemation functionality to be more tightly integrated into the IT Landscape of the installation. By creating a link between Userids in Valuemation and the Persons associated with those Userids, Valuemation can send Emails, PopUp Message Boxes, and offer the users more complete and readable information.
