DML Integration

A DML (Definitive Media Library) is a secure Information Technology repository in which an organisation's definitive, authorized versions of software media are stored. It represents a storage area for software objects ready for deployment. A DML should only contain master copies of controlled software media Configuration Items.

In Valuemation, linking of definitive media libraries is supported using 'Documentation' objects of the 'Source Code' documentation type. Documentation objects provide an envelope for attachments linked to a configuration item. This way attached files can be grouped, easily identified and provided with additional information.

A catalog of documentations filtered to display objects of the 'Source Code' documentation type represents a pool of all registered source code. For easy access to DML information, a catalog of this type can be inserted in appropriate places of the application GUI, for instance the sidebar of SACM-relevant business views.

DML data can be created and linked to configuration items in two way:

  • Create a DML item separately and link it to the configuration item

DML items (i.e. documentation objects of the 'Source Code' type) can be created by calling action 'Create' from a 'Documentations' catalog and selecting Documentation Type 'Source Code' in the Documentation editor.

Action 'Assign' in the 'Documentation' tab of a configuration item can then be used to link the already existing DML item with the configuration item.

  • Create a DML item directly from the configuration item editor

Action 'Create' in the 'Documentation' tab of a configuration item opens an editor in which a new documentation object can be created. Documentation Type 'Source Code' must be selected to create a DML item.

This DML item will be automatically linked to the edited configuration item.

The actual source code files can be attached to the DML item by action 'Create attachment'. The attachments are administered in the 'Document Links' tab of the Documentation editor.
