Print to PDF

Print-to-PDF functionality is the preferred way to get print outputs from Valuemation. You can easily print any catalog or object to PDF without having to create any report definition. The catalog or view definition is used as a template for the PDF document instead. The Print-To-PDF functionality is available in both the Rich and Web Clients.

Compared to the Valuemation internal Print Engine, Print-to-PDF functionality offers several important advantages:

  • The output consistency. You always get a PDF document with polished layout which can be saved and forwarded (emailed, for instance) to another destination at once.
  • No need to create any report definition to print a catalog or an object in detail view. The catalog or view definition is used as a template for the PDF document instead. When printing a catalog, only the visible catalog columns will be shown in the PDF document. Column widths and alignments will be respected as well as the catalog condition and sorting order, aggregation functions, even colors of individual rows given by rendering conditions.
  • When printing an object opened in the editor, the resulting PDF document will look almost like the open editor. All visible fields, reference views and referenced catalogs will be shown in the PDF document in the order, position and alignment as they appear on the view. If the editor shows a picture control, the fist picture will be shown in the PDF document, too.
  • It is vastly configurable. Although there are no report definitions at work, you can customize your own report template to change the visual properties of the generated PDF documents
  • Report templates are used according their names: if you need one template for object type, create report template that name. If you need different templates for particular catalogs, use their names for different report templates.
  • Unlimited number of objects can be printed when printing catalogs from the Sidebar InfoObject or from the reference catalogs.

Note: Make sure you have a PDF viewer installed before using the Print-to-PDF functionality. If using the Web Client, also make sure you have allowed the pop-up windows in your browser and that your browser supports reading of the PDF format (if not, the PDF plugin is usually required) - the resultant PDF document will be opened in a new, separate window.
