Linking Object Types

System Assignment to Cost Center

When a system is assigned to a cost center for a certain period of time, a time-related link object of the System Assignment to Cost Center object type is created.

System Assignment to Organization Unit

When a system is assigned to an organization unit for a certain period of time, a time-related link object of the System Assignment to Organization Unit object type is created.

Theses two assignments of systems (and components) can be used, for instance, to determine costing and charging for individual assets (summed for cost center or organizational unit, etc.). See also the 'Analysis' topic in the Costing/Charging Management section.

System Assignment to Location

A time-related link object of the 'System Assignment to Location' object type is created when a system is assigned to a location.

System Assignment to Person

A time-related link object of the 'System Assignment to Person' object type is created when a system is assigned to a person. For each assignment, the role of the person in the relationship can be specified. Roles available in standard Valuemation are 'User', 'Owner', 'System Maintenance', 'System Supporter' and 'System Manager'. More roles can be added by adding values to fixed value set 'Sysperson.PersRole'.

System Assignment to Service

A system can be assigned to one or more services. For each assignment, the role of the system in the relationship can be specified:

  • 'Provider' - the system supports the assigned service. In this case, the availability of the assigned service will depend on the system availability.
  • 'Consumer' - the system is supported by the assigned service. In this case, the availability of the system will depend on the availability of the assigned service.

See topic 'System Availability and Business Impact' for more information on the system-service dependence.

Usage Type of a System

A system can be assigned to one or more usage types. Each link between a system and a usage type is called Usage Type of a System.

This link is time related, comments can be attached to it and it can be used as a target for one or more subordinated systems via Two Systems Relationship objects.

Two Systems Relationship

Each system can be linked with one or more usage types of another system. This link is called Two Systems Relationship and it represents subordination between systems.

It is time related. When a new link is established, it is always from the current date. The removed link is terminated on a date one day before the current date. The user can double-click any existing link and change the starting or ending date and add comments to the link.

Component Assignment to System

When a component is assigned to a system for a certain period of time, a time-related link object of the Component Assignment to System object type is created. These links are the basis of system configuration.

Component Assignment to Cost Center

If the cost center assignment inherited from a component's system is not sufficient, a direct link between the component and a cost center can be created. This assignment is based on a time-related link objects of the Component Assignment to Cost Center object type.

This link is not used in standard functionality as the link to cost center inherited from the component's system is usually sufficient.

Component Assignment to Item

During the technical stage of the 'Incoming Goods' action, the component is assigned to an Item object. This component-item link is represented by an object of the Component Assignment to Item object type.

Objects of this object type represent relations between technical components (i.e. results of Incoming Goods Technical) and corresponding administrative objects (i.e. items created by Incoming Goods Administrative).

For software components this relationship represents also the link to licensing information held by the corresponding item type. This information can be found in the 'Software License' tab available for item types of 'software' item classes (SW Client, SW Server, SW OEM...).

If the corresponding item type is linked to a SmartTrack product (see 'Valuemation - SmartTrack Data Exchange' for more information), the 'component-item-item type' association provides the component with detailed license matrix supplied by the SmartTrack application.
