Project-specific Help Assignment

Standard Valuemation help currently contains over 3000 pages. Creation and administration of this amount of content requires tools of its own. For Valuemation documentation, a help authoring and content management tool Author-it has been chosen. Author-it is also used for output publishing and Valuemation help topic assignment uses the 'toc.htm' file created by Author-it. For this reason it is not possible to assign generic html files even if they are located in the correct location specified by path settings.

If context sensitivity of your own custom content is an important issue, the following options can be considered:

  • Using Author-it to create your custom help
    • pros: clean solution with growth potential
    • cons: requires additional investment and training
  • Using another help authoring tool and modifying its output toc.htm file (using standard help toc.htm as a format model) to work with Valuemation
    • pros: could be cheaper that using Author-it
    • cons: not clearly defined, requires some investment and further tweaking
  • Using dummy topics provided with standard Valuemation help

If only a limited number of project-specific topic assignments can cover the most pressing context sensitivity needs (for example to describe the main customer-specific business views, catalogs and editors), you can use 12 dummy 'Context Sensitive Custom' topics supplied within standard Valuemation help.

How to use the 'Context Sensitive Custom' topics

The 'Context Sensitive Custom Content' part of the 'Project-specific Documentation' help section contains 12 topics labeled 'Context Sensitive Custom 01 - 12'. In the English help output folder, these dummy topics have unique identifiers from #21036 to #21047 (i.e. can be found as files 21036.htm to 21047.htm).

The topics can be used in several ways. See chapter 'Custom Documentation' for more information.
