Resource Management Structure

Resource Management functionality is based on three main object types - Resource, Resource Project (RM Project) and Reservation. Objects of these types represent other Valuemation objects from the perspective of resource planning and allocation. For example, a resource object can represent a person, a support group or a system.

Resource Management structure

  1. A resource is an entity which can be used to perform a certain task. A Valuemation person, support group or system can be employed as a resource.
  2. Resources are assigned to resource projects. One resource can belong to more than one resource project, one resource project can have more than one resource.
  3. A resource project can represent a Valuemation ticket, a process instance or a generic business project. An independent resource project (a resource project which does not represent any other Valuemation object) can also be created.
  4. Resource projects consist of Reservations. One resource project can have more than one reservation, one reservation can belong to only one resource project.
  5. A reservation can represent an Activity (for resource projects based on tickets) or a Task (for resource projects based on process instances). An independent reservation (a reservation which does not represent any other Valuemation object) can also be created.
  6. Each reservation must have its resources. One reservation can have more than one resource, one resource can belong to more than one reservation. The link (linking object 'RM Reservation of Resource') connecting a resource to a reservation is assigned a Role. This way one resource can be used in different roles in the context of different reservations.
  7. A resource can be assigned a Default Role. This is the role which the given resource automatically assumes when it is assigned to a reservation.

The topics in section 'Resource Management in Use' explain how this structure translates into a tool for real-life resource management.
