Contract Fulfillment

Similar to orders, contracts also represent an external request for delivery of new products to a company.

In addition to other data, contract items contain information about contracted product types and quantities. Valuemation can use this information to create actual products and components in the CMDB. The process is called 'Incoming Goods' and is done in two steps:

  • Incoming goods - creation of products

The action takes information contained in contract items and uses it to create actual products. Each piece or unit of delivered infrastructure is represented by 1 product. The responsible person is likely to perform this action at the moment of goods delivery.

The action is sometimes referred to as 'incoming goods administrative'.

  • Incoming goods - creation of components

After products have been created, the 'Create Components out of Incoming Goods' action can be used to register the delivered goods as components in the CMDB. Components represent IT infrastructure/configuration items from detailed technical point of view. The responsible person will perform this action when the delivered products are put in use (assigned to a person, system and location) or registered in the stock.

The action is sometimes referred to as 'incoming goods technical'.

Products of some product types do not create components. Such products can only be received administratively. i.e. using the incoming goods administrative action.

Incoming Goods and Master/Demand Contract Items

When the 'Incoming Goods' action is called from a contract, the following question may be relevant: should master or demand contract items be used for the creation of products? The usual choice is 'demand contract items' but Valuemation settings provide the possibility to choose between the two options.

To set up whether master or demand contract items be used for the incoming of goods, go to:
business view 'Valuemation Administration' / sidebar section 'Procurement Management' / Action 'Settings - Requesting & Procurement' / Tab 'Incoming Goods'.
