Modelling

This folder contains catalogs intended to design/model Processes, Node Types, Building Blocks and Data Types.

Processes for Engineer

This catalog has been prepared to create and edit processes and to manage their life cycle. A part of the lifecycle is managed in the catalog Processes for Deployment though.

Process Actions

Apart from standard actions there are various actions designed concretely for BPM that can be run mainly from the context menu.

Action

Function

Create New Version

Creates a new version of the selected Process. A new version of a process is a copy of the process with an incremented version. Once saved, both process name and version are read-only.

Export XPDL

Exports the selected Process as an XPDL file, that can be opened in other programs that support it.

Set as My Template

Sets the selected Process as My Template. All the flow objects, data objects, lanes and phases from the "My Template" Process are automatically included in the new Process.

Process Editor

In the Editor of a Process, you can design a Process, create and connect Flow Objects, Data Objects and setup Phases and Lanes. To understand how to create a process, we recommend to go through the Getting Started in 10 Minutes guide.

The 'Main' and the 'Details' tabs in the process editor view offer some information and options:

Main

  • Name

Name of the Process. This field is mandatory.

  • State

Shows the life cycle status i.e. In Development, In Test, Approved, Active.

  • Version

Shows the current version of the process. When creating a new Process, the version number can be set manually to any number.

  • Usage

Sets the usage type of the process:

Top-level

-doesn't allow the process to be used as a subprocess at all

Global

-this type of process can be used as a subprocess of other processes (unlimited usage)

Embedded

-an embedded process can only be used as a subprocess of 1 process

  • Description

Enter the process description here in order to easily recognize what the process is designed for.

Details

  • GUID

Globally Unique Identifier of this Process (or current Process Version)

  • Source GUID

GUID of the original process from which it was copied. This can be the previous process version or the process template.

  • Planned Duration

Enter the process duration. Example: 2d 14h 45m 15s

Reference Catalogs

To understand how to create/edit a process, we recommend to go through the Getting Started in 10 Minutes guide.

Flow Objects

Allows to create Flow Objects and to create sequence flows.

Data Objects

Create Data Objects.

Lanes

Create Lanes, assign performers to these and finally allocate flow objects to the Lanes.

Phases

Phases are a special functionality of VM to easily set and show the progress of a Process Instance.

Advice

Shows advices how to solve detected problems/warnings in the current process.
