Calendar Mode Basic Terms

Basic Terms to remember:

  • Calendar Mode is applicable for data with a time aspect to it. It displays catalog data in the form of Calendar events. Catalog in calendar mode can display calendar events derived from either catalog data or associated objects. It can also display calendar events of global calendars.
  • Calendar events are objects derived from catalog data (or associated objects) in the way defined by a Calendar.
  • Calendar definition is an object specifying how calendar events will be generated from objects of the calendar's Underlying Object Type.
  • Underlying Object Type of a calendar is an object type whose data is used as basis for generating corresponding Calendar Events. The Calendar defines rules according to which these Calendar Events are generated.

There are several types of Calendar Events:

  • Time-precision Events

Events which start and end at a certain time (with h-m-s precision). This can be an interval or a single point in time (e.g. a deadline).

  • All-Day Events

These events last one day (point in time) or a whole multiple of days (interval).

Additionally, the following distinction can be made:

  • Overlapping Events

Calendar Events may overlap freely. Overlapping events are displayed next to one another horizontally.

  • Events Spanning Day Boundary

Interval events spanning two or more days. These can be the following:

    • Time precision events starting at a certain time one day and ending at a certain time on another day.
    • All-day events spanning several days.

See individual display mode descriptions for information on how these event types are displayed on the GUI.
