'Search Configurations' Catalog

This catalog lists the available search configurations and enables you create and add a new search configuration.

If you double-click an existing search configuration, a 'Search Configuration' editor opens.

The 'Search Configuration' editor consists of the following parts:

  • Object Type

An object type which the search configuration is created for.

  • Name

A unique name identifying the specific search configuration.

  • Condition

A condition defined for the search configuration.

Click the 'Set Condition' button to edit the current condition or to define a new one.

  • Description

A description of the search configuration.

  • Enabled

If selected, the current search configuration will be enabled.

Below you can find three reference catalogs:

  • Attributes

Here you can find (define) attributes of the object type in which the Global Search searches. The attributes are linked with the 'OR' search operator.

The name of an attribute and the search operator specified for the search are the key parameters of each definition. When creating a new search configuration, the system detects the columns with full text indexes automatically and applies them as a priority (for the performance benefits). When a unique index is used on a certain column, then it is used as a second choice. If there is not even the unique index used, the system doesn't allow you to search by such an attribute for the sake of potentially slow performance.

Note that the final position of search results may also depend on the "Score". Please see the 'Order by Score' option above.

Note: You can update the attributes using the 'Update Attributes' button. Alternatively, right-click to call a context menu with the same option. You must use this function when you additionally create a full text index for an attribute.

  • Relations

Except the attributes, you can also define relations in which the Global Search searches. The relations must be selected and added manually using the 'Add Relation' button. Alternatively, right-click to call a context menu with the same option.

Note that this option may also have a negative impact on performance: The more relations, the more tables have to be joined. It is highly recommended that you beta test your definition of relations with real-life data first.

  • Search Groups

Lists one or more search groups the search configuration is assigned to. The search configuration must be assigned to at least one search group to be available for the Global Search.

You can edit and control the search configuration assignment to a search group using the 'Edit', 'Search&Assign' and 'Add New' buttons located below. Alternatively, right-click to call a context menu with the same options.
