Service Parameters and the Product Selector

The inclusion of individual service parameters in the product selector is subject to settings made on two levels:

  • Service Parameter attributes
    • Optional in Configurator
    • Default
  • Service Parameter Type level
    • Mandatory
    • Single / Multiple
    • Reciprocal
    • Relevant to SRM

Properties Configurable on the Service Parameter Type level

  • Mandatory

Signifies that the parameter is mandatory. This means that when a service option which includes this parameter is selected, then the parameter is also automatically selected, i.e. the option cannot be used without the parameter.

  • Single / Multiple

Specifies whether only one or more than one service parameters of this service parameter type can be selected within a given service option. For example, if service parameters 'Intel' and 'AMD' are both of the 'Processor' service parameter type and the 'Single / Multiple' property is set to 'Single' for the service parameter type, then either 'Intel' or 'AMD' (but not both) can be selected within one service option.

  • Reciprocal

Signifies that for service parameters of this type higher value is considered lower quality. This consideration may be useful in calculations and graphical representation of data.

  • Relevant to SRM

Specifies whether parameters of this service parameter type are transfered to the Product / Service Catalog when function 'Populate to Product / Service Catalog' is used.

Properties Configurable on the Service Parameter Type level

  • Optional in Configurator

This property is applicable only for service parameters of a service parameter type which is not specified as 'Default'. It specifies whether the service parameter is offered for selection in the configurator tree when the service is instantiated. Service parameters with 'Optional in Configurator' set to 'false' are not presented in the configurator tree and they are automatically taken over from the service template. For example, a new desktop PC will automatically be supplied with a PC case without the option even provided.

  • Default

Specifies that the service parameter is automatically pre-selected when the service template is instantiated.
