SPM/SLM at a Glance

Valuemation Service Portfolio / Service Level Management functionality provides a complete set of tools for administration of IT Services. Service Portfolio Manager focuses on designing the structure of services and the creation of a Service Portfolio. Service Level Manager works with actual services created on the basis of Service Templates designed at the Service Portfolio stage, including the administration of Service Level Agreements and links to Valuemation Service Request and Contract functionality.

All Service Portfolio and Service Level administration is performed in two Valuemation business views: Service Portfolio Manager and Service Level Manager.

Service Portfolio Manager can be seen as a subset of the service functionality specializing in service design only. The Service Portfolio sidebar contains the following sections:

  • Service Model: The design of services and service structures - working with service templates
  • Service Metamodel: Categorization of services and creation of standards
  • Administration: Administration of other related business infrastructure (Business Partners, Organization Units, etc.)

Service Level Manager provides the full range of the service functionality. It takes the parts covered by the Service Portfolio Manager as a starting point and focuses primarily on working with actual service instances. This approach is reflected in the content of the Service Level Manager sidebar:

  • Service Model: The design of services and service structures - working with service templates
  • Services: Working with service instances, service agreements and contracts
  • Service Request Management: Access to relevant Valuemation Service Request functionality
  • Service Metamodel: Categorization of services and creation of standards
  • Administration: Administration of other related business infrastructure (Business Partners, Organization Units, etc.)

Although actual customer implementations may differ, three types of SRM/SLM users can be expected:

  • Service Model Architect

Service Model Architect has access only to the 'Service Portfolio Manager' Valuemation business view. His expertise resides in the area of the service market trends and needs. He designs the structure of services according to the market, working mainly in the Metamodel section.

  • Service Portfolio Manager

Service Portfolio Manager has also access to the metamodel, however his main area of work is the Service Model section - preparation of service templates.

  • Service Level Manager

Service Level Manager has access to the broadest scope of service functionality. He builds on the work of Service Model Architect and Service Portfolio Manager - creating individual instances of services and assigning them to customers and suppliers.
